Geeks meet the (spot)light

I’m sure that in the past, I’ve overlooked some show that centers on, to borrow from Ryan, “nerd-human relationships”. Were it not for MY’s suggestion, I would have completely missed Big Bang Theory since I did not notice any previews before the season started.

Here’s a classic example of an exchange between a “normal being” (Penny) and uber-geek Sheldon:

Penny: I’m a Sagittarius, which probably tells you way more than you need to know.
Sheldon: Yes, it tells us that you participate in the mass cultural delusion that the sun’s apparent position relative to arbitrarily defined constellations at the time of your birth somehow affects your personality.
Penny: (puzzled) Participate in the what?

The show is jam-packed with quotables that my usual TV.com “Quotes” section never does it proper justice. Thus, I would love to own the season on DVD.

The freakiest part is how one of the four male geeks reminds me in appearance, mannerisms, and conversationally of a brilliant former colleague of mine. It’s great fun on Monday nights to see aspects of people I know and thoughts I’ve privately had aired and spoofed! :D

On this day..
