“It sometimes happens, that a woman is handsomer at twenty-nine than she was ten years before; and, generally speaking, if there has been neither health nor anxiety, it is a time of life at which scarcely any charm is lost.”
– Regarding the heroine of “Persuasion”, Elizabeth Elliot
Indeed! That’s why I love Jane Austen.
Currently reading: “Persuasion”
Don’t read Somerset Maugham’s “The Painted Veil.”
almost there, hon!
I did read The Painted Veil and recall being miffed for they were slanderous against “aging” Kitty who is younger than I am! :P Loved the book that had an outcome so much nicer than the movie.
I like both Jane Austen and Somerset Maugham! I must be an odd bird.
In case there is some ambiguity, I posted this quote in particular because it seemed I had stumbled upon it at an opportune time: some of my friends are approaching 29 this year and ought to be encouraged, while I’ve been 29 for… nearly a year now. ;)
