While a lot of shops popped up in my Cambie neighbourhood, it seemed like NPY’s work neighbourhood was stagnant with mostly fancier and formal dining options which rack up if you eat lunch out every day. In the past year or so, we discovered Q Go Ramen at Broadway and Granville. Ken recommended it to us once at a get together yet it still took a while to get around to trying it out. It turned out NPY had a sort of family connection to the owners (as in someone was dating someone) and in kind, we recommended it to everyone we knew. We marveled at the value of the noodles and the freshness of the ingredients. Recently, I think, they introduced a smaller portion which is still enough for me so I have a new order.
At Q Go, NPY ordered vegetable ramen and it is very tasty and chockful of a variety of vegetables. I tend to order shio or miso but tried new items they introduced including a cheese one that really didn’t do anything for me. (Think, a clump of shredded mozzarella cheese.) Since what I order has the Japanese style barbecued pork, they always ask me, “Fatty or lean cut?” The lean pork can get dry, bland and unsatisfying, so fatty all the way!
Yay for super-long weekends. Although it was a longer day, Vina and I tied up loose ends by end of Thursday and kicked back with pizza from Longo’s and Inniskillin (Niagara Estate) pinot noir with no other objective than to download after a couple of weeks since we had seen each other. But Vina’s Blackberry was constantly abuzz and we considered the spots her friends were going to and it was really easy to roll out of the condo and make it to somewhere on King Street West: “Somehow all roads lead to a club on King??!” I tweeted. It was a fun way to blow off some steam and walk around the “neighbourhood”, but my favourite parts were just talking our hearts out before and after going out.
* NPY’s Picture of the Day. While I’m in Toronto and he is in Vancouver, 3400km away, we will try to share with each other (and consequently this blog) pictures that capture our day.
