Thirteen years in Vancouver by the numbers (of trips away)

Later this year will be the 13th anniversary of my moving to Vancouver.

Thirteens years – less 16 months in Toronto – of being based in Vancouver, going from graduate student to corporate wage slave and now working mom with inescapable responsibilities and restrictions. For some reason, I did the tally and by the middle of this year, I’ve been to the following destinations since September 2004.

Road trips
Okanagan 5x – 2007 x2, 2012, 2013, 2014
Vancouver Island 4x – 2006, 2011, 2013, 2016
Seattle – countless
Whistler 8x? – 2005 x3?, 2007, 2013 x2, 2015, 2017
Portland 3x – 2008, 2009, 2016

U.S.
Vegas 5x – 2006, 2008, 2012, 2014, 2017
California 6x – 2005, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 x2
New York 2x – 2009, 2011
Hawaii 2x – 2012, 2015

Canadian
Halifax 26x – four of which were during my year in Toronto
Toronto 20x
Vancouver 4x – 2011 x2, 2012 x2 – trips to Vancouver while I was in Toronto
Saskatchewan 4x – 2012 x4 – all business trips
Quebec 3x – 2005, 2012 x2
Ottawa 2x – 2007, 2014
Alberta 1x – 2005
Newfoundland 1x – 2014

Truly international
Europe 3x – 2005, 2006, 2013 – 4x if you count St. Pierre in 2014 because I otherwise don’t know where to count it
Asia 1x – 2010

Could I have gone to Halifax and Toronto more often?! No freakin’ wonder I haven’t gone anywhere else.

All of this tallying came about because I was thinking about how many times I have been to Las Vegas. From Vancouver, you’re there before you know it, unlike other Canadian destinations.

Because later this year, I’m going for the fifth time in 13 years for my sister’s bachelorette trip! (Also, it’s the longest I will be away from the kid and NPY has a solid four days and three nights of solo parenting.)

On this day..
